Child And Adolescents
My approach is collaborative, practical, strength based, holistic and trauma informed. I have training in DBT, CBT, Play Therapy and Integrative Movement Therapy. I use art activities, music and dance to connect with children and adolescents.
A note on working with adolescents and children:
Play: Play is vital for health! Playing games gives everyone an opportunity to identify, develop and/or grow important life skills such as communication skills, self-regulation skills, attention maintenance skills, and planning skills. Skills learned through play can be translated into everyday life.
Physicality: Embodied activities have numerous benefits such as increased awareness of emotional and physical states and the differences and similarities between them. Being physical also feels good and is healthy for the body and brain. Further, movement increases language (expressive and receptive language) and any form of exercise is beneficial and may lead to healthy life long habits. I tailor exercises to meet individual needs and rely heavily on the principals of the yoga-based healing modality Integrative Movement Therapy (IMT). IMT addresses development in the 6 core areas: social interaction, vestibular stimulation, language stimulation, physical stimulation, direct self esteem building and concentration/ self regulation.
